Henrietta Knight says saddling her first runners since 2012 on Friday will be as nerve-racking as the day she made Cheltenham Gold Cup history with Best Mate in 2004.

The 77-year-old, who handed in her trainer’s licence to care for her late husband Terry Biddlecombe, runs Zettabyte and Ballywalter at Wincanton.

Out of retirement with just over 30 horses at her Wantage stable, Knight said: ‘I will be as nervous as I was when Best Mate won his third Gold Cup.

‘It has been unbelievable the number of people who have rung up and sent texts.

‘I can’t believe it that people are so interested in a 77-year-old woman starting another career.’
